FASHION has formed the backbone of what I do on a daily basis.
From scouting looks for photoshoots to chatting with designer friends about their up-and- coming collections, one day to the next is never the same.
People think it must be the most glamorous job on Earth, which it is not,
It is a whole heap of fun, but if only they saw me sweating while lugging 70 shopping bags down Princes Street in the piddling rain, then they’d think again about the glam.
But I wouldn’t change any of it for the world. Except when I can.
You see, searching for items of clothing to fit into photoshoots’ themes can sometimes leave me tearing my hair out as what I have in mind hasn’t been designed.
I once read that Tamara Mellon, Jimmy Choo co-founder, whilst accessories editor at Vogue, would go to Jimmy Choo, who had a small bespoke shoe shop at the time, and ask him to whip up shoes to go with the shoot.
Ms Mellon spotted a gap in the market and promptly went into business with Mr Choo, turning the brand into the global icon that we know and love today.
Now, I’m in no position to build a business but I sure can call in a couple of favours when I need a certain kind of frock whipped up. Clothing crisis averted.
The Obscure Couture have an exciting year ahead. Come February they’ll be taking the big smoke by storm at Pure London, an event that brings together mid to high end womenswear. I have a feeling their frothy “Mama Coco”
frock will go down a storm.
