Have your say

CAROL McMorris, owner of Edinburgh vintage clothing institution Armstrongs, opens up on her wardrobe to Gaby Soutar

What’s the last piece of clothing you bought?

A lovely cream cape from Zara. It’s very simple and easy to wear. I love the clothes at Zara as they are high fashion, yet still affordable.

What are you addicted to buying?

Statement necklaces are the perfect accessory for transforming a simple outfit into something bold. The bigger and more colourful the better.

Best ever bargain?

I recently bought a white, long-haired, Mongolian faux fur jacket from TK Maxx for £13.

Who has great style?

I really admire Paloma Faith’s vintage-inspired style. She pulls off the Fifties look very well and isn’t afraid to be bold with colours and prints.

Name your favourite high street shop.

Anthropologie. Their clothes are unique and quirky, often featuring lush prints. Their collection is definitely not for the faint-hearted.

Any fashion disasters you’d care to tell us about?

Back in the Eighties before they became on-trend, I would often wear kimonos to go clubbing. My parents would joke that they didn’t know if I was going out or going to bed.

What’s your favourite item in your wardrobe?

I have a Fifties vintage wool swing coat in a raspberry pink colour from Armstrongs. It gives every outfit the wow factor and I always get a lot of compliments whenever I wear it.
