Harry Potter author JK Rowling made a surpirse appearance to the Orkney Library this afternoon.

The author was stopping in at the Saturday Slaughters book club, dedicated to crime novels.

A wooden Lady statue in the library was allowed to wear The Sorting Hat - but they declined to share which house she was sorted in to.

Ms Rowling said: “I had the best time! Thanks for wonderful chat, cake and, of course, letting me touch The Book.”
