Tom Hanks' Rosslyn handout
HOLLYWOOD legend Tom Hanks has made a personal donation to help restore Rosslyn Chapel where part of his hit film The Da Vinci Code was made.
The amount of the "very generous" pledge has not been revealed by charity bosses but they say the gesture reflects Hanks' connection with the chapel.
Colin Glynne-Percy, director for the Rosslyn Chapel Trust, said: "We were thrilled.
Tom Hanks has given us generous support.
"We are hugely touched by the level of interest and support we have had. There have been very generous donations from the US."
Staff said Hanks e-mailed them about the Midlothian landmark which he first visited when filming the 53 million blockbuster in September 2005. The e-mail read: "My fondness for dear Rosslyn Chapel, that dear little piece of history. Few locations in film are so delightful and few destinations live up to their billing, but Rosslyn Chapel was all one could imagine or hope for."
The chapel, built in 1446, is in need of major conservation work.
Fundraisers have pulled in support from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Historic Scotland, as well as other groups and independent donors.
