Rihanna hit reigns as catchiest song ever

THE smash hit Umbrella was yesterday named as the catchiest song of all time.

The track by Rihanna, which also features rapper Jay-Z, stayed at number one for ten weeks in the summer of last year, leaving millions of Britons humming the tune.

It was even blamed for Britain's miserable weather after the country suffered one of the wettest summers on record.

Abba's 1976 floor filler Dancing Queen was at No 2, followed by the Village People and their 1978 hit YMCA.

Fourth in the poll of 5,000 people by market research site www.onepoll.com was Come on Eileen by Dexy's Midnight Runners, followed by Kylie Minogue's aptly titled Can't Get You Out of My Head.

Queen was at No 6 in the poll with Bohemian Rhapsody, while the Michael Jackson classic Billie Jean came seventh.

Culture Club's Karma Chameleon was voted in at No 8, and the Wham! track Last Christmas was ninth. Don McLean's American Pie completed the top ten.

Other songs by Britons making the top 20 in the poll were Tom Jones's Delilah, Duffy's chart-topper Mercy and Wannabe by the Spice Girls.
