Album review: Idlewild: Post Electric Blues
IDLEWILD Post Electric Blues **** Cooking Vinyl COOK, £11.74
Singer Roddy Woomble's sojourns into folk have, perversely, made Idlewild into a splendid grown-up rock band. This may not please those who cling to their early bombastic days, but is fitting tribute to one of Scotland's most enduring acts.
From the sepia-tinged Younger Than America onwards, here are some of their best songs. Dreams Of Nothing proves their youthful vigour is far from gone, and the title track could have been recorded in Athens, Georgia, probably at the same time as the hook-laden To Be Forgotten. This should stand as their best work to date.
