Scottish comic book writer Grant Morrison received an MBE
Innovative Scottish comic book writer Grant Morrison, famous for his Batman graphic novel Arkham Asylum, yesterday received an MBE for services to film and literature.
The 52-year-old, who lives near Glasgow, said Prince Charles had “asked about comics and said he used to like reading the Eagle in the 1950s”.
Mr Morrison completed a family double as his father, Walter, received an MBE in 1998 for community work. “My father died a few years ago, but I have his MBE safe,” he said.
Former England goalkeeper David James, who also received an MBE at Buckingham Palace, said the prince had asked him about the farmers’ foundation he set up in Malawi. Jimmy Carlson, a recovered alcoholic who was homeless for 23 years before turning his life round and helping others, received an OBE for his services to homeless people.
Mr Carlson, 65, said: “It was one of the proudest days of my life.”
