Creation of new Bash Street in honour of Dundee’s comic stars moves a step closer

PLUG, Spotty, Smiffy and the rest of the Bash Street Kids are set to have a Dundee street named in their honour to celebrate the 75th birthday of the Beano.

Planning officials at Dundee City Council are recommending that proposals by publisher DC Thomson to create a real Bash Street next to West Marketgait should be approved at next Monday’s meeting of the authority’s city development committee.

The un-named street has been earmarked for a children’s soft play area.

Councillor Will Dawson, convener of the city development committee said: “While it is a bit of fun, it is important for us to be able to acknowledge the history of the city and some of DC Thomson’s best loved characters.

‘’We’ve already got statues of Desperate Dan and Minnie the Minx in the centre and it’s good to tie in the Bash Street kids, particularly because a proposed children’s soft play centre in the street will have a Beano theme.”
