SO YOU’VE had enough of the chilly outdoor events or the more sedate pub atmosphere and it’s time to ramp things up a notch. Dance away into the wee small hours of New Year’s Day with our pick of the club nights in Edinburgh.

Hogmanay at Summerhall

Summerhall, 1 Summerhall

9pm - 3am, £20

Summerhall has stamped its mark on the Edinburgh art scene with its residency in the former Royal Dick Vet School. To mark the biggest night of the year they are promising to entertain, amuse and delight with The Loveboat Big Band, DJs Lindsay Todd (Firecracker Recordings) and Joseph Malik (Cafe Graffiti/Compost) as well as a few surprises to keep things exciting.

The Most Extraordinary Hogmanay Party

Tron Kirk, Royal Mile

10pm - 3am, £10

The original Hogmanay venue on the Royal Mile is reopened for the first time in 20 years for a series of New Year’s events from Drambuie. On the 31st two of Edinburgh’s own house music institutions, Heavy Gossip and Ultragroove join forces to toast 2013 in a unique space.

Musika Hogmanay

The Liquid Room, Victoria Street

10pm - 5am, £22.50

For real DJ disciples, the Liquid Room is the place to be this Hogmanay. Over two floors, the heavyweight line-up of Derrick Carter, Justin Robertson, Joris Voorn and Darius Syrossian will be joined by local DJs for what’s sure to be a sweaty, hedonistic event.

Edinburgh’s Grand Hogmanay Ball

Assembly Rooms, 54 George Street

8.30pm - 1am, £60-£75

The newly refurbished Assembly Rooms on George Street provide the glam setting for a glam occasion on the capital’s social calendar. Don your finest threads and dance away to classic party tunes and traditional ceilidh favourites. There’s also a feast of haggis, neaps and tatties and an arrival drink included.

Volume! Hogmanay Masquerade Ball

511, The Newsroom, 5-11 Leith Street

10pm–3am, £5

If you’re a lover of wall-thuddering bass, head to 511, the new space below The Newsroom, for beats from Termite, Fault Lines, DFRNT and Kidill.

VEGAS! Grand Hogmanay Ball

Voodoo Rooms, 19a West Register St

9pm – 3am, £25

The Las Vegas-inspired clubnight takes over the Voodoo Rooms for Rat Pack music and performances from Missy Malone, Bugsy Seagull, Cow Cow Boogie (live), Nikki Nevada and the Vegas Showgirls, plus The Fabulous Scott Brothers and Croupiers in the Stardust Casino Lounge.

Mansion & Intoxic Present

Silk Nightclub, King’s Stables Road

10pm – 5am, £20

Expect the unexpected when clubnights Mansion and Intoxic merge for Hogmanay, bringing house, electro, soul, jazz, funk, hiphop, techno, dubstep and drum’n’bass from no fewer than ten DJs.

Magic Nostalgic NYE 2013

Electric Circus, 36–39 Market Street

9pm–5am, £10

A relatively new addition to the capital’s club scene, this unpretentious night is based on the concept of ‘The Wheel’, which decides what kind of music is played. This time DJs JP and HP are inviting people to add a category to the regulars like disco, rock gods and power ballads.

Gasoline Dance Machine Hogmanay

Cabaret Voltaire, 36–38 Blair Street

10pm - 5am, £7–£10 advance; £12 on the door

A pulsating mix of electronic dance, disco, house and funk from regulars Cheap Picasso and Rob Ralston, who are joined for the occasion by Isaac Tichauer of French Express.

Wee Dub Hogmanay!

The Caves, Niddry Street South

10pm–5am, £23

For fans of reggae, dub and dancehall, there’s really only one show in town. Get youself along to The Caves for sets from Radikal Guru with Cian Finn, Riddim Tuffa Sound featuring El Fata, Big Toes Hi-Fi Soundsystem, 7ft Soundsystem, Audio Soup meets Chapel Perilous, and much more.

Citrus Club Hogmanay Party

Citrus Club, 40–42 Grindlay Street

10pm–5am, £15

The indie institution that is the Citrus Club mixes it up this NYE with regular DJs playing indie, rock and new wave, as well as live music from Caravan Club, The Jackals, Durty Wurks and Green Man Running.

Bongo Club Hogmanay Party

The Bongo Club, 37 Holyrood Road

11pm–5am, £10

Bid farewell to the Bongo Club (in its current location at least) as they bow out of their Holyrood address with sets from their regular clubnights, including Four Corners, Headspin, Mumbo Jumbo and Soulsville.
