GLASGOW will host MTV’s European Music Awards next year, it has been announced.
At a press conference in Amsterdam, ahead of this year’s show, Glasgow was announced as the host city for 2014.
The show will be held in the new SSE Hydro venue, and is the first time the event has been hosted in Scotland since the awards came to Edinburgh 11 years ago.
The EMAs, which will be beamed to over 700 million households across the world, is celebrating its 20th anniversary next year, having first been staged in 1994 next to the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin.
The show in 2003, held at Ocean Terminal, was hosted by singer Christina Aguilera, with acts such as Beyonce, the White Stripes and Justin Timberlake up for awards.
It will be the fourth time the event has been held in the United Kingdom, with London and Liverpool also hosting in 1996 and 2008 respectively.
It is not yet known who will present next year’s show.
