TENNIS star Andy Murray has turned down a deal worth more than £1 million to sell his wedding photographs to glossy magazines.

Titles such as OK! and Hello! reportedly offered seven-figure sums for exclusive shots of the tennis champion’s wedding to Kim Sears.

However, the couple refused the offers and instead are choosing to have a private affair with close family and friends. They are to get married at Dunblane Cathedral on Saturday. A private reception at Murray’s £1.8 million hotel, Cromlix House, will follow the ceremony.

Invited guests are believed to include actor James Corden, television presenter Sue Barker and former tennis player Tim Henman. A source close to the couple reportedly said: “All the magazines you can think of made offers, but Andy and Kim are not interested.

“It doesn’t sit with the kind of people they are. It’s not about money – they do not want a glitzy wedding.”

The 2013 Wimbledon champion and Olympic gold medallist has revealed he has left the vast majority of planning the nuptials to his 27-year-old fiancée, an English literature graduate from East Sussex.

However, Murray has chosen the menu based on a series of food-tasting sessions.

In an American interview, the former Wimbledon men’s singles champion said: “I think in a lot of cases it’s just better to let the woman have it how she would like.

“In terms of flowers and colour schemes and those sorts of things, I couldn’t really care less about that, to be honest.

“The only thing I wanted to do was to be involved with the food. Because I like my food – I like good food.

“I went along and did the food tasting, and I also did the cake tasting as well.

“So that would be the thing that I would say I have been most involved in.”

He added: “The music is something we chat about together as well.”

Miss Sears, a straight-A student, met Murray when the two were 17 years old at the US Open in 2005. The couple will marry at Dunblane Cathedral and not, as many had expected, in the chapel at his Cromlix House Hotel, near his Perthshire hometown. His brother Jamie married Alejandra Gutierrez in the chapel in the grounds of Cromlix, which seats only 28, in 2010.

Perhaps inspired by the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Miss Sears is understood to want a “natural” theme, with rows of potted silver birches in the cathedral and floral arrangements at the hotel. Thousands are expected to line the streets of Dunblane for the wedding day of the town’s most famous son. His uncle, Niall
Erskine, said: “I’m sure it will be a popular decision, as he’s had so much support from the people of Dunblane in the past.

“Andy is looking forward to bringing all his family and friends to Dunblane. I’m sure lots of people will come down to see the cars as they go past and it will be a very popular day.”

Dunblane Cathedral minister the Rev Colin Renwick added: “There is excitement because there is a great deal of affection for Andy in Dunblane and a great deal of pride in him. I think people are genuinely very pleased for him.”

Murray will have three best men: his brother Jamie, close friend and tennis player Ross Hutchins, who recovered from cancer to return to the sport, and former training partner Carlos Mier.

It is also understood that Miss Sears will have four bridesmaids.

Murray was best man at his brother’s wedding and again when Hutchins married Lindsay Wood last year.
