Glasgow 7s gearing up for action in Scotstoun

THE SRU is confident that the Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s will be a success again this year and yesterday revealed that the event at Scotstoun in May will have a ‘movies’ theme.

In 2012, the Glasgow 7s attracted nearly 27,000 fans across the weekend, brought in an estimated seven-figure sum to the city’s economy and was hailed by the International Rugby Board as a roaring success in it’s inaugural year.

This year’s event – the penultimate leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series – takes place on 4 and 5 May and will see Scotstoun transformed into a homage to Hollywood, with prizes for best cast and best costume on offer to fans.

“Last year was a little bit into the unknown as it was our first year at Scotstoun but what we saw was Glasgow really embrace the event,” said Dominic McKay, Director of Commercial Operations, Communications and Public Affairs at the SRU.

“The Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s has become the ‘must-have’ ticket for the May Bank Holiday weekend and with this years Movies theme, the fans will have another cracking weekend. We’re really excited about bringing the HSBC Sevens World Series back to Glasgow.”

Speaking at the official launch of the event at Glasgow’s iconic Grosvenor Cinema, Scotland 7s captain Colin Gregor said: We can’t wait to get back to Glasgow to play in front of a massive, noisy crowd and experience that buzz at Scotstoun again.”
