SHOULD Chris Hoy be knighted? Should Meadowbank get a new velodrome? Should Graeme Obree be included in the British cycling backroom team for London 2012? Suddenly, a sport other than football is hitting the Scottish headlines and transforming national pride.
This week's civic reception and "lap" of honour on the Royal Mile will attract possibly as many admiring Scots as the opening of the Scottish Parliament (especially if it's not raining). But these heady moments will pass. And, for posterity, there's ...

Knighted? For Christ sake get a grip! He won a gold medal for himself not for anyone else. Presumably we'll see the Executive throw wads of cash at cycling facilities until the fad fades away (remember skate board parks?) and something else takes its place.

actually for once Lesley is talking sense (that was hard to say) we do need to up our facilities for ordinary cyclists and provide more bike lanes. Also allowing them on buses and trains without all the stupid regulations might get the country a bit fitter. cycle racks outside fried mars bar shops

How right on the mark about these so called 'cycle lanes' that are nothing more than a dotted line about 2' away from the kerb. Cycling out of Aberdeen of an evening on the direct route out of the city centre heading west takes you along one of these so called lanes that has a broken, potholed, raised manholed, gravelly, gnarly surface that I refuse to put my wheels and tyres into. I'd rather take my chances out in the main bit of the road. That says nothing for the aforementioned parked cars and the muppets that think passing you before immediately making a left turn, or squeezing past you so close that their wing mirror bangs your elbow is a good idea. No wonder folks would rather add to the congestion and take the car.
