THE Scottish lawyer for Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi has denied reports saying he had died.
Sky News briefly reported that Megrahi had died just after 4pm today.

But Megrahi's lawyer, Tony Kelly, told Reuters: "It's absolutely untrue. He's definitely not dead."

"I'm not saying anything about his health condition other than the fact he is alive and breathing," Kelly said.

Megrahi, who was suffering from terminal cancer, was released from a Scottish prison by Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill earlier this year on compassionate grounds.

He was convicted of mass murder for the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie on 21 December 1988.

Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi Rip with your god.

A patsy for UK and USA intelligence..

Hopefully his lawyers carry on the fight and prove how corrupt they are.

The Malteser is living the good life in Oz after selling his soul for the American Dollar..

His family deserve the fight to carry on to clear his name, for their sake..

Sad also for all those who died on this flight that the correct murderers so far have not been found.

A tragedy.. Milliband release the documents what are you scared off.

No3 I'm not so sure.

Difficult yes but have faith that the truth will come out..

Those who have been involved in this coverup Incl. British, USA Government officials should be given the equivalent sentence without parole or mercy...

The Scotsman is the only British newspaper reporting the alleged death of Megrahi something even his lawyer is denying.

6 - Actually, they are not, if you cool your jets and read the story again. The story is that the lawyer is denying the death.

If indeed he has passed away, at least his family were able to spend some time with him beforehand. Mr Mac Askill should be congratulated on his decision. I hope a proper enquiry can now be put in place to identify the real bombers.

artemisclyde,

The Scotsman's first press release on this story was that it had been reported that Megrahi had died (see comments 1-5) They later changed the format of the press release after Megrahi's Scottish lawyer denied that Megrahi had died.

If he's dead it makes the decision by the SNP a correct one to release him on compassionate grounds. Will people please acknowledge this.

A point well made, and the sooner these poor people see the true person, or people, brought to justice the better. I started off thinking this man was guilty, but the more I read into it the more I feel he was set up. The sooner a proper trial is held, with no evidence being held back, the better. Justice needs to be done, if after a fair trial has been held he is still found to be guilty then fine, but I dont think it will.

17, Orifice.

You sir are the moral pygmy. You lot who believe Megrahi perpetrated this crime are an example of how thick people are and how ready they are to accept the flawed evidence that was used for political means. Why don't you read up on the facts of this case you moron. There is no way this man is 'guilty beyond reasonable doubt'. A person convicted on the flimsy evidence of a person paid millions by the CIA is your starter. Grow up idiot.
19

Jo Public,

And by your definition, the Labour Government are also 'apologists for evil' since the London Government agreed to the release and thought it would be wrong for this man to die on British soil. oh dear. All European countries agreed it was the right thing to do as well. The only people who disagree are clowns like you, who seem to think him dying here serves some purpose. Dear oh dear. To think idiots like you have the vote is sad.

Let’s face it you are just another SNP halfwit who sees everything through the prism of SNP V Labour. Right and wrong does not come into it for dupes like you.

I have read up on the case. I am fully aware of the lies of Paul Foot and the way in which the bone idle journalistic "profession" have followed his dishonest lead without checking any basic assertion e.g. The true nature and position of Hans Kochler.

I have also read the original trial documents which shatter the flimsy claims put forward as grounds of appeal. No wonder Megrahi withdrew of his own volition.

Happily he is not yet gone.

I hope the justice volunteers (like Christine Graham) keep embarrassing these liars in the same manner as she did in News night yesterday! The Unionist with the rangers scarf around his neck was proving his ignorance as he attempted to halt the quest for justice by defaming the innocent SNP MSP! We still have no answer from him why the unseen fragment of circuit board went from Scotland to Germany and then to America?

Perhaps we will SOON find out who perpetrated the Lockerbie atrocity whilst the passengers were under the protection of the British security service?

Every post I have ever read from you is anti SNP, does this mean you qualify as being one of those halfwits you talk of, just from a different side of the prism.

Megrahi states, he was rightly instructed that his continued appeal would bias his claim for PTA (Labour's dirty deal) and a continued appeal would hold up his release on Compassionate grounds.

So in retrospect, the advice to drop the appeal was good advice! The question now is, why are the state prosecutors so terrified of an investigation into the Lockerbie truth and the release of all the evidence?

I think we can all guess?

Chris,

22 The Oracle Of The Higher Power: Have you also read the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission Report? The one that upheld three of Megrahi's lawyers' grounds for appeal, and found another three grounds? Presumably when saying "I have also read the original trial documents which shatter the flimsy claims put forward as grounds of appeal." you are denigrating the SCCRC as well.
'Oracle' (def: source of wise counsel or prophetic opinion) you are apparently not, I doubt the 'Higher Power' bit as well.
