THE mother of Kenny Richey has spoken of her regret at paying for her son to leave Scotland in 1982 to make a new life in the United States.
Eileen Richey paid for Richey and her other son Tom to travel to the US to live with their American father.

Both brothers ended up in US prisons with Kenny, 43, spending more than two decades on Death Row.

Tom Richey was jailed for 65 years after he shot and killed a young shop assistant while high on drugs, just months after his brother was sentenced to death for the aggravated murder of a two-year-old girl.

Mrs Richey welcomed Kenny home in January and he now lives in her flat in Orwell Terrace in Dalry.

The 63-year-old has been left shattered after her son was first pictured allegedly snorting cocaine, then just days later was diagnosed with mouth cancer.

She is reported to have said: "If I had not given them the money, they would have stayed here and these terrible things would never have happened."

Mrs Richey also revealed her heart was broken after her youngest son, Steven, also moved to the US.

Ah, what a heartwrenching story. The Evening News' obsession with all things Richey continues.

Whilst I supported his case whilst incarcerated, I think
it is now time for him to return to the anonymity from whence he came. But it's still makes good headlines and
sells newsprint, in this the media are exploiting him.
This is the first I have heard about any cancer???

I too supported him in his fight for his innocence. Which I still believe in but I am afraid since he came out he himself has allowed himself to be "exploited" by media.

As for the cancer story, well I do not think it rings true. I don't know why he would make a story up like that unless he thinks he can outwit the media.

Why not just change the title to Edinburgh Evening Ritchey?

I rather doubt that Mrs. Ritchie. In fact, it's a blessing that you did give them the money or it might have been two Scots that paid with their lives.

This is what comes of poor breeding.

Now can we please stop giving these wasters such press coverage.

Surely you are not suggesting that the "cancer story"
may be a fabrication ? Such an act would be despicable in the extreme.

It would indeed be 'despicable in the extreme' -

I would go further to describe such a ploy as 'morally reprehensible'.

The trouble is, with Kenneth Richey you are dealing with an extremely limited intellect. I genuinely pity the poor sod.

Such a simpleton should really be taken into care.

To be honest, I'm not interested whether he was responsible for that little girl's death or not; the fact remains that he has served what I would reason to be a fair and just sentence in the event of him being so.

Now he should be left alone.

After twenty odd years incarceration, I should imagine that he feels quite justified to indulge himself with excessive drink and profligately gambling.

I certainly would.

I don't believe his cancer story either but time will tell: no doubt the press will be gathered at the Main Entrance!
I too wonder about the coinciding stories: snorting drugs (tuttut) and next a sudden mouth cancer which he says he has been ignoring for a long time (aahhhhh). Is the press paying his ticket to the USA with that story???
