it was Operation Cover-up for the Queen when she visited the Nippon Electric factory in Livingston on July 4, 1983.

Her stylish clothes were hidden under a plain white overall and the unusual outfit was finished off with a pair of white “slippers” for the tour of the microchip factory – which has to be kept as clean as possible. But it was back to the well-dressed Queen we know when she was presented with posies at the end of her visit. When the Queen arrived to officially open the Livingston plant, hundreds of royal fans thronged around the entrance.
