Schoolboy Dean Wright made a macabre discovery in Canongate Kirkyard – pieces of human spine, ribs and part of a jawbone.
Dean, 15, was showing a relative around the cemetery when he found the bones sticking out of the soil beside a path.
It was believed the bones may have been washed to the surface by heavy rain. No-one has been buried in the Canongate Kirkyard since the mid-60s.
Dean, from Abbeyhill, told the Evening News on June 17, 1993: “I was walking through the graveyard and just saw them lying there. People might say it is normal to find bones in a graveyard – but not like this.”
