Boy fights off serious illness to play Tattoo
A BOY has battled to overcome serious illness so he can play his bagpipes at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo later this month.
Schoolboy Luke Masters nearly fell into a diabetic coma which threatened to rob him of the chance to play at the world-famous event.
Though he lives in Wiltshire, 14-year-old Luke is a member of the pipe band at Queen Victoria School in Dunblane.
He and the rest of the band were selected to play at this year's Tattoo in recognition of the school's centenary.
But disaster struck in February when Luke went on a skiing trip to Switzerland with the rest of the school.
He began to feel unwell and was losing weight and being sick on the bus home. He was then diagnosed with a life-threatening type of diabetes.
Luke said "I was so worried they wouldn't let me take part, but I feel much better now."
