The family of missing Gordon Wilson, 82, have put up his Christmas decorations in the hope he’ll return to enjoy them.

The former head teacher of Shawlands Academy in Glasgow suffers from dementia, and went missing on 25 October.

He moved to Essex ten years ago and the last sighting of him was in the county near the village of Sible Hedingham, near Halstead.

It is a place he and his late wife Sybil used to go walking, and it is thought he might have gone back there to find her.

His daughter Lesley Rankin, 54, says that putting a Christmas tree at her father’s house in the village of Leaden Roding is a “sign of hope”.

“If he comes back the tree will be ready for him and the place looking nice.

“My children always did the tree with him. My youngest, Mhairi, thinks he’s coming back and that it’s the right thing to do because he’ll see it.”

Although he’s been missing for seven weeks, Lesley and her sister Gillian Wilson believe their father will be found.

She said: “If anything untoward had happened they would have found him by now.”
