Initially slow service was far outweighed by the excellent food in large quantities at very reasonable prices.

For a Saturday night the place was, given the level of quality, surprisingly empty. In recent years, since I started going for side-orders rather than making a pig of myself with starters, I can’t recall eating so much in an Indian restaurant.

Definitely one to go back to but they need to work on that initial 5 to 10 minute period when you first arrive.

Knocking off two stars following my visit here with work a couple of Tuesdays ago. We were a party of 13 and there was another large table set out when we arrived plus a smattering of duos/couples yet there were only 2 waiting staff on. The quality of the food was undiminished yet that in no way makes up for it taking nearly 3 hours in all for us to be fully served. Add to that the fact they were lucky to get the booking at all seeing as they failed to respond to my initial email request for a table and I had to resort to phoning them up & the result is I won’t be back until I see some improvement noted on this site. Such a shame considering how it was a couple of years ago.

I wish I could give them a zero.

Slowest service I've had in my entire life. I've dined at Michelin star restaurants to fast food joints in Tallahassee and this takes this cake.

I enjoyed my stay in Edinburgh but this left an extremely sour taste in my mouth and it has made me think very poorly of the dining choices in Scotland.

Food was undercooked, service was slow and rude, manners were appalling and they spilt wine all over my Mother's dress and after 2 minutes they eventually got around to cleaning it up!

I am doing them a favour when I say they are the WORST RESTAURANT EVER!

Terrible restaurant. I ve heard the owner abuses his staff and pays them well below the national minimum and keeps their tips. Reflects in the service and food.
AVOID restaurants like these.

Came here due to the good reviews, but can't agree. Our service was lacking and food really bad. Our naan had a hair in it and the chick pea puri tasted like the sauce was sugary ketchup. Will definitely not be back

Good food at a great price, great value for money. however when i was there the staff member serving me seemed reluctant to give me a drink or the ice cream that was part of the lunch deal. (i had to ask twice for both). but to be honest i was to busy eating to care.

I had past the Red Fort many times but hadn’t actually been in until the other week… i was very pleasantly surprised! The lunch was great, they have a very good selection of food on offer for the buffet and at £6 (student price) for all you can eat plus a soft drink and either ice cream or tea/coffee its really good value. The korma was nice (not as good as Noor though!) i thought the best dish was probably the Chicken Chasni. i’ll be back.

I went there for the first time recently with some work colleagues as the restaurant we had originally aimed for was closed. What a great decision! The Red Fort is a compact little restaurant with space for probably around 40 covers. As we went at lunch time we were able to take advantage of their fantastically-priced buffet lunch which, at just under £7 per person for all you can eat, a soft drink and a tea/coffee or ice cream, is wonderful value. Although the choice of dishes is limited they were all delicious and several of us went back for seconds and thirds. We asked for some nan bread as it had run out and the staff brought some to our table, which was a lovely touch. Altogether a great find, and somewhere I hope to go again soon!

What I had: Buffet with lemonade and ice-cream.

Pros: Great food with a good selection, nice atmosphere, quiet, and not terribly busy.

Cons: Service was sub-par, price was more than advertised, there is a tendency to rush people out.

At 6 pounds for students and 6.85 for non-students, this is great deal. However, all the pamphlets around town advertise the buffet for a pound less, so be prepared.

The lunch buffet has amazing food. For under ten pounds it’s good value too. What I specially like about it is that it doesn’t have an overwhelmingly large selection of food but everything is absolutely delicious
