We saw Iron Man 3 today at the Dominion Cinema. This was our second visit to the Dominion. First visit was to see Jack, The Giant Slayer. I didn't really care about the first movie choice - it was all about the experience of going to the Dominion. The entrance lived up to the boutique reputation. Staff were friendly enough, on the phone and also in the cinema. Only issue I had with my first trip to the Dominion in Gold Cinema1 was the smell... this is no fault of the cinema - one of the perks of this cinema is that you can relax, kick back, and take off your shoes and rest your feet on the footstools. Unfortunately someone in the row or two behind me had the smelliest feet imaginable - at the time I didn't realise that it was someone's feet - I thought it might be a fault with the Air Conditioning, but it was definitely the feet. The second trip was a 'do-over' and a chance for the cinema to redeem itself as a place I wanted to visit on a regular basis. The second trip was excellent. I'm not a big fan of over-priced 3D movies, so it's great that the Dominion shows 2D versions of 3D blockbusters in their main screens. We bought our tickets from a gentleman in a bow tie and evening suit - he was very friendly and courteous - top marks to you sir, your smile and enthusiastic welcome made a world of difference! We sat on a very comfy sofa quite near the front of the cinema, and found the movie watching experience to be superb! Picture, sound, comfort, room temperature, everything was first class - and no smelly feet! It wasn't until I was leaving that I noticed that the sofas are recliners, so I'll remember that for my next visit in case I don't get a foot stool.

Others have said it before me, and others will say it again, once you visit the Dominion Cinema, all other cinemas will seem second-rate, and lacking charisma, and charm. This is how cinema going should be. If Dominion management read this review, I would ask that you compliment your staff on their friendly manner and encourage them keep up the good work - it makes a big difference to your patrons, many of whom are there for more than just to watch the latest blockbuster - they are there for the entire friendly boutique cinema experience.

Looking forward to my next visit already.

Terrible phone service. Did not connect to box office, so a group of 2 esteemed adults and myself, on a short break to Edinburgh from London, decided to go to a showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" at a 15:30 screening. We each brought £7.80, which we decided would easily be sufficient funds. But we were very disappointed to find that the prices were OUTRAGEOUSLY high, totalling, to our dismay, £26.50.
I intend not to return to this profiteering scandal.

Staff are very arrogant but the cinema is nice (even if it is seriously over priced).

We went to the Dominion today using our Groupon vouchers, therefore brilliant value for money.  It was a "family day" so my husband and I took our 6 year old (who has only been to the cinema once) and our 3 years old (today was his first visit!).  It was a total pleasure! My youngest is very "strange" about some things, i.e. darkness, noise etc.  However, it was light enough to see everyone and the volume was perfect.  Didn't blast you out the seat like some places.  Couches? How brilliant!!  And a footstool?? Even my grumpy hubby couldn't find fault!

I should also mention how friendly the staff were!  Lots of smiles and not a grimace in sight - a very welcome change from the norm these days!

What a treat!  I can't wait to go back.  Thanks for a most enjoyable visit.

I had an absolutely wonderful time at the Dominion Cinema last week.  I came to see an afternoon showing of the flick Angels' Share in Cinema 2.  The leather sofas were beyond comfortable and for once my husband and I weren't deafened by the sound (these other multiplexes turn up the sound system so loud my husband actually has to turn down his hearing aid!) From the moment we walked in we were treated like celebrities- we were greeted by a smiley member of staff behind the box office who printed out our tickets (despite me forgetting the card I'd booked with- "no problem at all!").  On the door we were greeted by two very friendly ushers who gave us two tubs of crisps- what a treat!  We had arrived whilst the adverts were still playing so I popped upstairs to buy us two G&Ts- a licensed cinema- I'll say!  We THOROUGHLY enjoyed our experience and would definitely recommend it to all our chums!  Best picture house in Edinburgh.

Just spent £23.20 on two midweek seats. Although they were supposed to be very comfortable as they were large and reclind, we all had a horrible time as it was far too hot. Not even an apology when I complained. It was only a 16 degree day outside so no real excuse except lack of investment in the air conditioning. We will not be going back

Hadn't been to Dominion for years - really impressed by the lovely comfy sofa and footstool - really relaxing, however do be warned that the screen we were in, the sound from the film above was very intrusive at times and overwhelmed the dialogue of the film we were watching.  I don't know if this happens in all screens but will think about going again because it really did spoil at times.  We were kindly offered a voucher to see another film but we refused the offer because I am not really sure whether I want to go to the cinema to see one film and listen to another at the same time.

Grab a sofa and a footstool, a decent cup of coffee and perhaps a wee dram and spend the most relaxing evening watching a movie you can imagine. Not cheap mind, but worth a visit.

One of the three great cinemas in Edinburgh. Quite pricey sadly and I am not the biggest fan of ‘Cinema One’ because of it’s lack of regular seats as I often just go on my own. (If I ever won the lottery I’d love to own a cinema.) This is the most mainsteam of the 3 best Edinburgh cinemas (The others being The Cameo and The Filmhouse). So if you are fed up of multiplex annonimity then this family run cinema still has charm and character. (Maybe time for a few new pictures on the wall though!!)
