The first time I came here I wasn't very satisfied. However, I decided to give the place one more chance and I can't describe you my regret. It was worse! I don't know if it's my fault, may be I didn't explain to the lady what I want her to do. But when she started with the procedure it was painful, the result wasn't what I expected and the woman wasn't gentle at all. It's a shame, because I've heard some really great responses.

I have been to Zen 4 times now, and every time have had a small reaction to getting my eyebrows waxed, however the beautician still used extremely hot wax on my eyebrows and continued to pat, rub and tweez them with cold water even after I said they were sore. I now have extremely red skin that is physically painful and I will have a scar in-between my eyebrows as all the skin has been ripped off. I WILL NEVER BE RETURNING TO THIS SALON. The staff don't have time to consider each customer and do not consult on your skin type before performing a procedure. No wonder it is no longer Edinburgh's best salon.

Zen seems to be the only place around which is open early in the morning which is really handy as this is about the only chance i get to get my waxing done,i,e on the way to work. the girls here are really friendly and professional,I've been quite a few times over the last few years and to be fair ive never had a bad treatment. the salon always smells lovely too!

I have been to Zen at Teviot Place a few times as well as the bruntsfield salon. The treatments here are not the cheapest but I think the service here is always first class they definitley do the best waxing treatment I've had anywhere and the staff are always really friendly. I would recommend trying the HD Brows which I don't think you can get anywhere else in Edinburgh. The only downside is that it does get pretty busy in the evenings and weekends so sometimes I'm a bit too disorganised to get an appointment when I need one. Basically this salon is very professional, clean and tidy, and the girls are really lovely. strongly reccommend.

I absolutely love zen! If i had more money i would be there every day if i could. I have always been in for the occasional wax (which i have to say are the best in Edinburgh) and the odd manicure and pedicure. But on the lead up to my wedding I started having regular facials to clear up my skin. I've always had problematic skin but the facial treatments I had worked wonders. My therapist was very knowledgable and reccommended i come in to have my skin analysed first with the facial scanner machine. She then reccommended a combination of different treatments and some products to use at home. They weren't the most pampering facials as i was having microdermabrasion and aha peels but relaxing none the less as you get to lie on a heated bed with a furry blanket..... heaven! My skin looked great on my big day and I now still keep up with the my maintenence treatments on a monthly basis. My skin has never looked better!!

I go to Zen occasionally for waxing, as they use the hot wax which is brilliant for sensitive areas!! Its a great salon, lovely therapists, most painless wax i have ever had! Very welcoming and lots of treatments on offer. Definately one of the best ive been to!

I have been to Zen Lifestyle 4 times now since I moved to edinburgh for massage and once for a facial. I have had a few different therapists and I must say they are all lovely girls and really knowledgeable therapists. This is by far the best salon I have been to for treatments, I used to get treatments quite a lot in London at a few diferent places and none of them were up to this standard. The rooms are really relaxing with lovely flowers and laromatherapy candles and you can get a really good firm massage, which isn't that easy to find I think. When I had the facial I go t a free consultation with their digital scanning equipemnt which is pretty cool. They sell a skincare brand called Murad which I haven't heard of before but I've been using some of thier products which has really helped with acne. You get a text the day before your boking as reminder which is pretty handy for someone like me. The only downside is that because of the city centre location it can take a while to find a parking space nearby. But all in all I would recommend a treatment at Zen as a pretty lovely experience.

Tragic. One of the worst experiences of my life, tainting the best day of my life. I had read several positive reviews of this place online when I searched for a very good spa/salon to get waxing done prior to my wedding. I had flown over early from New York City and wanted it to be fresh so I got waxed the day before my wedding the last week of July 2010. I was wearing a strapless gown and wanted my arms to be smooth so I had them waxed as well as an upper lip wax (which I have had done on a regular basis every few weeks for years with no problems before this).
The attendants/technicians were very nice. I had a lovely conversation with the young woman who worked on me but the actual waxing procedure left me with huge patches of red abrasions on my arms, bruising and broken blood vessels and the removal of skin. It was not a reaction to the wax, it was not a burn, my skin had been ripped off in thin layers up and down my arms as well as two patches on my upper lip underneath my nose! When I left the spa, I didn't know that anything was amiss, my skin felt a little raw and sensitive but I was concentrating on not messing up my mani/pedi. By the time an hour had passed in my hotel room, it became obvious. I called the spa and they sent some aloe to the hotel but I do not think they realized the severity of the situation.
The next morning the day of my wedding, it was even worse. The raw skin had begun to scab over. On one level I desperately wanted to run over to Teviot Place and make a scene, demand my money back and show them what they had done to me On. My. Wedding. Day. but I took the high road and didn't want to start the day out with a huge meltdown, I just had to move forward. Of course I was busy with a million other things including finding MAC body make-up for my arms (the woman at the Harvey Nics MAC counter was amazed when I told her this had happened to me at Zen Lifestyle saying it is supposed to be a top-notch salon, I said ruefully that is why I had picked it). The rest of my morning was filled w/desperate calls to my make-up artist. She was from Beautyworks Scotland and did an amazing job covering, but the skin texture underneath the pile of make-up on my upper lip was still clearly damaged, they couldn't do anything about that even though they were able to cover the redness.
On top of everything else the waxing technician got wax on a new pair of my trousers and said it would wash out easily, not true - they are ruined as well. So much money down the drain but that is not even the issue for me: I would easily give 20 times the amount I spent there in order to have never set foot in the place. Manicure was not great, very limited selection of colors and no nail dryers. The only thing that went wrong on my wedding was ON MY FACE AND ARMS and was the result of terrible, very sticky bad wax and an incredibly shoddy and inept procedure at Zen Lifestyle. I am now applying anti-scarring cream to the area on my lip because while it has finally healed, the skin is still raised and discolored. Incredibly disappointing. Be warned.

In first and second year of university I went here to get my eyebrows waxed as it was just across from the university buildings. It was already rather pricey when I got my brows waxed there, even with the student discount (Somewhere between £8 and £9) However, the pleasure I gained just from getting my eyebrows waxed was great. The staff are obviously very well trained. Now I am one of those strange individuals who loves getting their eyebrows waxed, especially when they put ointments on afterwards. Zen gave me the best waxing treatment I ever got. However, I stopped going after they raised their prices. I felt £11 for an eyebrow wax was a bit ridiculous for a student. I only wish I had more money, however. This is an amazing beauty clinic and I can only imagine how good their other treatments must be. Maybe I'll treat myself to a session here for my graduation.

I think that Zen has just won Salon of the year award again. It is well deserved. There are 2 salons - both quite close by and both are good.
I have had a few treatments here including several on the week I got married. The staff here are lovely and very well trained. The treatments are great - I had the best sports massage ever her from a lovely Australian girl.
The prices are about what you would expect - not cheap or too expensive and if you register with them you get texts with special offers.
Think they have now branched out and are doing some clinical treatments - botox and such things.
Their treatments are Elemis and they sell some nice products in the salons too.
