We stayed here for 3 nights with our 15 months old son, for a family wedding at Edinburgh Zoo which was right next door. It's a good, clean, basic hotel with friendly staff and lots of facilities (bar, coffee shop, internet, swimming pool, spa). If you don't have children maybe avoid at weekends, but it was perfect for us. The staff couldn't have been more helpful, the food was good, and the atmosphere was one of fun and excitement with all the children either heading off to the zoo, or playing with their cuddly toy souvenirs from their completed visit! The hotel is totally geared up for families - there was a colouring station set up by the reception, free balloons, lots of great family and kiddie meal deals - even a list of things to do in the rain in Edinburgh! Would highly recommend this hotel - the easiest holiday we have had with our baby so far. Thanks Holiday Inn!

If you’re travelling to Edinburgh by car then this is a good place to stay because the parking is free - quite a consideration as last time we chose a city centre hotel we were £14 a day for parking which really bumped up the costs. Very handy to walk to the zoo which is where we spent a big chunk of our Saturday - don’t miss the penguin parade! We had a special deal so we got one evening meal included in the price. We had the carvery and there was an excellent choice of starters, with the rest of the food being very nice too but I think if you are paying the full price it’s quite expensive. The buffet breakfast was great with a very wide choice of healthy options as well as the temptying fry-ups - it also included haggis!
On arrival we were given an information sheet with details of buses into the city centre - it’s on a main bus route so they are very frequent - and other useful details. Our visit was in October so “tattie holiday” time in Scotland when the kids are off. Because of this they were operating a booking system for the pool (which is very nice and has a separate jacuzzi). Staff advised on the best times to book (early morning and before 4pm) which is what I did and I was able to enjoy being the only person in the pool on the Saturday morning - however I did have to get up at 7.30am! The changing rooms were very clean with excellent hairdryers and a machine to whiz dry your swimming costume. There are also shampoo/shower gel dispensers in the showers. You collect a towel on the way in. The gym looked very well-equipped but didn’t try it out.
Our room was very clean and comfortable. Nice to get mugs to make tea and coffee in and not tiny cups.

Good hotel set next to the Zoo so great if your planning going there , easy to get bus into town as on main bus route. Good food although quite expensive for what you get.

the holiday inn, corstorphine hill, edinburgh is on the west side of the city approx 15 mins from airport and haymarket or waverley station … this large, modern 4star is located next door to the royal zoological gardens and close to murrayfield - good for rugby etc - and has a large pool/spa area … rooms are pretty standard - as are restaurant/bars etc - nice open views and good transport links into town for shopping etc
