I can't live without this place! The most amazing chocolates ever. I'm trying not to eat so much, but it's like I'm a magnet for them. Honestly! I no longer come everyday, just 2-3 times a week.

This place is really the cream of the crop. It’s obviously always busy so sometimes you might have to wait for a seat. But once you do, it’s heaven. Every experience I’ve had of the glorious products they create (be it truffles, hot chocolate, sorbet/icecream, cake or chocolate bars..yep, tried them all) has been fantastic. Considering it’s such high quality and obviously so much effort has been put into the creation of such ethical treats, I think the pricing is very reasonable. The staff are also very friendly and human! Not like the robots some places expect their staff to be. This to me is just another aspect of the genuine quirky atmosphere you can expect.

on the chocolate front, you can get dark, milk and white chocolate with all manner of additives such as pepper, cranberry, almonds, chilli and much, much more. they’ve got blocks of all flavours plus the fancy looking truffle type chocs. very nice indeed. the coffee also was very nice! cracking in fact. i tried a strong and tasty flat white that was complex without bitterness. good milk temperature and nice milk texture. will definitely be back http://edinburghcoffeelovers.blogspot.com/ twitter: @edinburghcoffee

In my opinion, this is one of the best cafes the be found in Edinburgh. Excellent chocolate. Whether you fancy a hot chocolate, chocolate sorbet, amazing cakes, individual delights or as a bar…it’s there. Beautiful to behold and amazing to taste. Lovely coffee (Artisan Roast, for those who know it…), a variety of yummy teas…there is something for everyone. Great care is also taken to make sure those with dietary requirements are catered for – vegan, Gluten-free etc…cakes and chocolates are labeled and staff are knowledgable and very friendly. Speaking of the lovely staff – I haven’t ever experienced what other reviewers have said and would encourage folk to take the negative reviews with a grain of salt and try it out for yourself. I have watched over and over staff go out of their way to make sure folks have what they need and can get a seat, above and beyond the call of duty. It does get crowded at times – but that’s because they are something quite special. (If you fancy some peace and quiet, go in the morning between 8am and 10am.) Finally, the ethics. I feel really confident in the environmental practices of this business – care is given to packaging, recycling, organic ingredients…something so rare to see carried out to such lengths in a business. Simply a lovely cafe.

I have tried to make sure I visit The Chocolate Tree every time I’m in the capital. The cakes, icecream and chocolates are superb and the hot chocolate is to die for. I have found the staff to be consistently polite and friendly and the atmosphere very relaxing. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I love this cafe and its produce its earthy feel belies the professionalism that is put into the produce and service. during the festival I had friends staying at a B & B nearby and I recommended the chocolate tree as a good place to go. Given that it was cold and wet and windy during most of the festival I think Erin practically moved in to the Chocolate tree and raved about it to me when she got home! I would highly recommend this cafe as a relaxed chilled out place to go for a warm sweet delight!

I’m surprised to read of people experiencing service thay didn’t like. On my three trips to the cafe in Bruntsfield I was particularly struck each time on how warm the service was. I got proper, friendly eye-contact and each time was asked how I was, and had the answer really listened to like it mattered. I couldn’t fault my soya milk hot chocolate and little bag of assorted bunnies at Easter time and the delicious bars that I regularly buy – usually the ones with berries on top. Festival time in Edinburgh demands that everyone working with customers digs really deep and anyone can have an off day. Don’t be put off. The impression I always get is that the owners really care about every aspect of the business, from the products themselves to the ethical bank they use. Oh, and if you can get some of their pistachio ice cream before Winter, you’ll be blown away!

Awesome vegan chocolate cheese cake type thing, and the mango sorbet (also Vegan!) is totally to die for. Love this place, especially all the cute quirky touches like the book on chocolate to read in the toilet and so on. Chocolate joy!
