Alas, Amore Dogs has now closed (as Qype insists I give a star rating, I've simply given it one as an indication it is no longer there - in its heyday it merited the full 5).

It has been replaced by Seadogs, relocated from its former home in Rose Street.  Perhaps AD will be resurrected somewhere else in Edinburgh, but there's no hint of that on the main Dogs website.

Good mid-range Italian food. Hearty and filling!

Pretty decent Italian restaurant, and very reasonable prices to boot too, given the portions! Inside the decor is quite neutral, and tables are spaced far apart enough for great conversations.

Choice-wise, there didn’t seem to be many meat dishes available, more pastas and pizzas and risotto. My coley fish was extremely fresh, tasty, and well cooked with a wonderful sauce. My mushroom risotto was disappointing though, as there was just too much water and the risotto was too mushy. Evidence of an inexperienced cook as naturally, the mushrooms release water towards the end of cooking.

Dessert was the strongest area. My ice cream came with three massive balls of amaretto, coffee, and vanilla ice cream. All three were amazingly delicious, and so smooth and creamy. The amaretto ice cream especially was just mind-blowing. And for the portion you get, the price (around £4.50) is very reasonable, and enough to share between 2 or 3!

Definitely will be going back again when in the area and looking for an Italian.

My wife and I have been to and loved The Dogs and Sea Dogs and were very keen to try this Italian version. Such is the popularity of these places that we had to wait for about 15 minutes for a table but it was definitely worth the wait. We ordered a chicken, bacon and chilli pizza, linguine with chicken and pesto and some bread with oil and vinegar for dipping. The food was simple and delicious and I would be happy to have paid more than the cheap price for it so like the other dogs restaurants this place is great value.

Another edition to the dog empire of Edinburgh.. The Dogs, The Sea Dog & The Underdog. All of the restaurants specialize in simple but good quality brilliant food, with no fuss and at amazingly good prices. Amore Dogs is no exception. I really like the set out of this restaurant with the main seating in the front area as well as a couple of little hidden alcoves and an upstairs overlooking the restaurant with a skylight.. Lovely! We arrived at 2pm on a Saturday and it was packed (which is pretty much always the case at any dogs restaurant) So we sat for 15 minutes with some drinks on their comfy leather sofas .. (really nice and larger than usual waiting area ) The day menu is really good with all dishes under £10.00 and really good serving sizes... In fact its pretty fair to say I think everything is under £8.00. I couldnt decide between a pizza, one of the many pastas or a mushroom risotto with truflle oil..

My husband got the chilli bacon and chicken pizza and I got the linguini with chicken, sundried tomatoes, pinenuts and pesto (pictured) with bread to share. The bread was lovely, warm and proper rustic. The pizza was pretty good as well, with a good amount of topping, but the linguini should actually have been renamed heaven on a plate! I am originally from Melbourne - the home of pasta, (lets just say there are as many Italians in Melbourne as Australians and I for one am grateful cause it means a lot of Italian restaurants) so I know my pastas and oh my god it was just the perfect blend of everything, not too much pesto, just the right amount of tomatoes (im not a huge fan of sundried) but in this I could be. I was actually full halfway through but couldnt stop till my plate was completely clean... It was one of the best pasta dishes I have ever had in my entire life - and Ive been to Italy a number of times..

Service good, surroundings suitably relaxed but full of personality, (always love the dog themed decor) staff are friendly and efficient, food is beyond divine, the price is absolute genius for the quality and quantity of food. Children welcome as well. I think out of all the dogs empire Amore Dogs is my absolute hands down favourite and thats a massive call because theres nothing bad I can say about either The Dogs or Seadogs ... Ive yet to try Underdogs... If youve never been you really are missing out.. Amore indeed.

I was quite impressed with Amore Dogs for dinner last Saturday night. The restaurant feels clean, airy, contemporary (think IKEA- but not in a bad way!) with candle lit tables and a reasonably priced menu. As a vegetarian however, the dishes lacked in variety; if I see one more Mushroom Risotto as the main veggie option I might just scream...

On the simple premise of always trying something you'd never eat at home I ate the most unctious, warming and comforting dish of 2009 last night. Who knew that pigs' cheeks & trotters could be soooo tasty.
It's been a while since I wanted to try the majority of dishes on a menu and even longer since my companions ate their meals so quickly there was no time for sharing.
A buzzy, busy atmosphere with excellent service; they lose a star for running two sittings, forcing us to quit the restaurant when I was all set to hunker down with more (splendid) wine and (also splendid) chatter.

Excellent value casual dining in the city centre. Good choice of main dishes including vegetarian options. Largely an Italian menu, but with 'variations' and always with good fresh ingredients, served as good portions too by cheerful staff, even when busy. Prompt service once seated (expect a wait if you haven't pre-booked) and I would suggest the best value for money you can get in Edinburgh. Left very satisfied on all counts - price, quality and flavours. Absolutely recommend for lunch, brunch or an evening meal. Note a different menu served for day and night service. Nice buzz and no pretensions to be more than good quality dining.
