J K Rowling 'thrilled' by latest award

EDINBURGH'S JK Rowling picked up another top award last night.
The Harry Potter author received an award for Contribution to the Arts at the Morgan Stanley Great Britons awards.

The judges praised Rowling for her "unprecedented global reach" and her success in achieving enthusiasm for reading among children and adults worldwide.

Rowling, who accepted the award by video from her home in Edinburgh, described 2007 as "a very bittersweet year for me" but said she was "thrilled and honoured" to receive the prize.

Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton received an award for Outstanding Sporting Achievement. Baroness Margaret Thatcher picked up a Lifetime Achievement award.
