FIREFIGHTERS battled two blazes in Edinburgh flats over the weekend.
The first, on Murdoch Terrace, happened at 11.40pm on Saturday when a pan of food caught fire.

A 59-year-old man was treated at the scene by firefighters for smoke inhalation and was given oxygen.

The second blaze happened on Sunday at 5.50am in Merchant Street.

Crews were called out to a fire in a bin in a kitchen of a ground-floor flat.

A 63-year-old man was rescued by a neighbour and was also treated at the scene by firefighters for smoke inhalation.

He was then taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary "as a precaution".
