EDINBURGH Rugby's stunning end to the Magners Celtic League campaign, culminating in successive away wins over Welsh opposition, is being reflected in a mass uptake of season-ticket renewals.
Less than a week into the summer break, more than 60 per cent of last year's sales have already been achieved.

The Capital outfit, who enjoyed a best-ever fourth-placed finish in the table, had 1020 season ticket holders in 2007-08 but, according to chief executive Nic Cartwright, sales are set to boom.

Cartwright said: "We have been really pleased with the level of sales achieved to date. We have a summer full of work and ideas ahead and we will be looking to encourage as many people as possible to sign up to our club as we build for the new season.

"But to have over 650 already signed up after only a week was beyond our expectation."

One player set to return is 32-year-old second-row Ben Gissing, who summed up the successes at the end of a season which saw him miss only one match.

"The attention to detail has probably made the biggest difference to our results. It was really good to finish with a win and everyone is really excited about what we can achieve next year."

This is a huge improvement by the SRU to have actually figured out that marketing the tickets now rather than waiting until the following season is upon them is bound to increase the sales.
Well done SRU!!!
One question, why has it taken them so long to work this out, I remember two years ago, this very point being made time and time again and the SRU paying no attention.

As a senior citizen and therefore concession an early season ticket only costs me £65. This has to be one of the best deals going. Roll on next year

1200 sold already apparently. Despite the cheap deals aplenty, it's still too easy to scoff at the paltry absolute number, but massive % increase (so we'll be told) on the previous year. Yeah, but percentages don't cover your fixed costs. When you consider the marketing (that is supposed to have gone in - can't say I've seen much) and the decent season put in last year, you have to wonder about the viability. It's Robinson and the players I feel for. What must they be thinking? Maybe there are 5-6k going to come out of the woodwork in the next month or two, but it's not likely.
