THE Cockburn Association has warned the city council against taking an "ad-hoc and piecemeal approach" to changing the Edinburgh skyline.
The heritage group has submitted a detailed response to the consultation on the local authority's draft Skyline Guidance.

It warns: "The justification for increasing the number of tall buildings on the skyline requires proper public debate.

"What constitutes improvement is always subjective. Appropriate 21st century additions to our world famous skyline could, of course, add value.

"Most tall structures and skyline features in the city have relevant cultural significance, are slender, and relate to Edinburgh's history and capital city status – representing public buildings of considerable importance.

"It has taken centuries to create Edinburgh's skyline but without effective policy it will only take a few years to damage it."
