EDINBURGH Rugby are expected to launch their new campaign with a friendly at Watsonians next Tuesday, it emerged today.
Stand off David Blair revealed: "I am really looking forward to getting started and as far as pre-season matches are concerned I'd like to be involved as soon as possible either against Watsonians next Tuesday, London Wasps at Murrayfield the followi
ng Saturday or Bath on Friday, August 29."

Blair's urgency is easily understood after gaining a call to the Scotland A side which reached the final of the Barclay's Churchill Cup in North America over the summer.

It was the latest step in the development of a player, now 23, who was first to notch a century of points at Scotland under-21 level and he feels benefits abounded.

"I was really surprised to get on that tour but enjoyed learning from the likes of Gordon Ross. It's time to push on and build on my first season back from Sale Sharks."

Added the younger brother of Scotland skipper, Mike: "Joining Edinburgh from Sale was definitely the right move. I managed to get game time which was what I needed most."

Of Blair's five starts for Edinburgh two were in prestigious Heineken European Cup ties and he contributed to a Magner's Celtic League win over Llanelli.

EX-STEWART'S/MELVILLE scrum half Ross Samson is in Newcastle's squad for Saturday's Middlesex sevens at Twickenham.
