CITY leaders are calling for Edinburgh's tram project and the Waterfront development to be added to the list of Scotland's top planning priorities.
They say designating the schemes as "national developments" would recognise their importance for Scotland's economy and could open the door to future funding.

And they also want the Scottish Government's list of projects of national significance to give more weight to the Capital's key role in the country's economy.

In its response to the National Planning Framework, the city council said the tram network was needed to underpin Scotland's economy by providing efficient transport to key growth areas. But they said the document "seriously downplayed" the scale and significance of development and change in Edinburgh.

The new Forth Road Bridge and improvements at Edinburgh Airport were included among the nine "national developments" in the latest draft in January

No they're not 'national developments' they're Edinburgh developments. The upgrading of the A9 is a 'national development' for example and that's because many people from within and out with Scotland use it. By comparison, how many will 'use' the Edinburgh waterfront?

I realise Edinburgh has to fight for it's share of our spoils but to say it is superior to everywhere else is insulting to the rest of Scotland. Anyway the amount of visitors who are not staying in the city these days is climbing. Why? The mess of the place with the trams project. Visitors don't want to be wandering around a building site so they're taking themselves into the 'real' Scotland instead.

Wait until the end of the year and you'll hear Edinburgh bleating on about the reduction in their visitor numbers.

a single tram line from the bottom of Leith Walk to Edinburgh airport a "national development"? get a grip!! the Waterfront? is this so that the buy to let, the big landlords and others conned into going there with promises of riches and no planning interference. the sky is dark from the wings of pigeons coming home to roost.

Another straw in the wind that the Grandiose TramCar Folly is running into deep trouble. The Business Case for the TramCar was underpinned by The Waterslum - nothing to do with Scotland's economy. Did the Parliament not tell Das Kooncil that if they went ahead with Dopey Burns' Legacy Project, there would be 'not a penny more'? Which part of that do our 'CITY leaders' have trouble understanding? If things go on like this, Snake-Oil Gallagher and his cronies might not get their Bonus!

Couldn't agree more, even if it is garnished with SNP spite.

What was Fergus Ewing's timetable for dualling the A9?
