Passengers told ‘no to wi-fi movies’
RAIL passengers planning to take advantage of a free wi-fi trial on trains between Edinburgh and Glasgow have been urged not to download movies or large files – as it will slow the connection speeds.
Transport Minister Keith Brown announced the £250,000 experiment yesterday, which will see wi-fi made available to passengers on four of the trains running the route.
It was admitted that if some passengers choose to download large files or movies they will cause problems for fellow travellers looking to use the service.
Officials advised: “Downloading large files or watching TV or video may reduce the overall connection available to passengers.”
The three-month trial is seen as the first step to extending the service across Scotland, and comes two years after ScotRail completed a feasibility study into the proposals.
