E-security for airport

ELECTRONIC security gates are to be introduced at Edinburgh Airport in a bid to reduce delays at immigration.

UK and other European Union travellers will be able to use the ePassport gates rather than queue for manual checks.

Similar arrangements are already used in several major English airports including Heathrow. Edinburgh handles 9.3 million passengers annually and numbers are growing at eight per cent a year.

Two more X-ray machines are also being added in the hand baggage search area, it was reported today.
