4000 bridge names so far

MORE than 4000 suggestions for a name for the new Forth road bridge have now been lodged as part of a public
consultation.

Transport Minister Keith Brown said the £1.6 billion project, due for completion in 2016, remained on schedule and within budget.

Some of the most recent suggestions on the special website – www.namethebridge.co.uk – include The Rebus Bridge, Forthover and the St Margaret Bridge. Other ideas include Brave Heart Crossing, Bagpipe Bridge, Haggis Highway and even the Irn-Bru Bridge (made in Scotland from Girders).

Mr Brown said: “We encourage everyone who has a suggestion to submit it by January 31 so it can be considered by the naming committee.”
