Volleyball: City trump Troon in tight test

City OF EDINBURGH handed Troon PA their first league defeat of the season to make life interesting at the top of the women’s Schelde Sports Scottish Volleyball League.

The Capital side lost the first set but fought back to win a tight four-set encounter by 22-25, 25-12, 25-23, 25-23.

It was not enough to overhaul Troon at the top but the margin could not be tighter with both teams on 31 points and the Ayrshire side just ahead thanks to sets percentage.

It effectively means that every set is now important with both clubs seeking the top position in the league and number one seeding going into the play-offs.

Edinburgh Jets kept ahead of Su Ragazzi on sets percentage in third after beating North Lanarkshire 25-12, 15-25, 25-14, 25-18.

Ragazzi had a similar scoreline at NUVOC as they won 22-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-16.

In the men’s first division, injury-hit City of Edinburgh continue to lead the way after beating Troon PA 25-11, 25-21, 25-21.
