In today’s Rumour Mill: Ally McCoist seeks support from Walter Smith; Daniel Cousin’s move to Rangers dependant on SPL appeal and Ibrox redundancies; Anthony Stokes looking for long-term deal; plus all the rest of today’s football news and rumour.

For all the gloating and gallows humour hanging over Ibrox - a humorous/stinging (delete as appropriate) selection of which can be found on The Sun’s back pages - sympathy for the club’s plight remains - not least from former manager Walter Smith, who rang his successor Ally McCoist at 4am from the US to offer some timely (well, maybe not at that sort of hour) words of advice, according to today’s back pages. Recently departed striker Nikica Jelavic also extends his sympathies to Rangers, saying: “I’m sorry to hear what has happened to Rangers and I hope it gets sorted.”

Even Kilmarnock player Lewis Toshney, on loan from Celtic, had some concilliatory words for the club he helped defeat at the weekend, saying: “It’s bad for any club, not just Rangers, who are a massive club...I hope they come through it, I really do.” (The Sun)

Meanwhile, Daniel Cousin’s on-off move to Rangers continues to drag on. The Gabon striker’s switch to Ibrox was blocked by the SPL after administrators Duff & Phelps were appointed. All of today’s back pages claim that McCoist will consider a final appeal for the move to be ratified. However, should administrators decide that redundancies are necessary, then any such appeal would be abandoned, according to McCoist.

In the wake of their 5-0 demolition of Hibs, Celtic take another step on their leisurely march to the league title. One of the scorers from that game, Anthony Stokes, has told of his desire to stay at Parkhead for the long-haul. A selection of headlines from today’s back pages to communicate the fact: ‘Make me a life Bhoy’ (Express); ‘Hoopy Ever After’ (Record); ‘Stokes now the real deal’ (Mail).

Celtic boss Neil Lennon tells The Sun of his admiration for beleagured Blackburn boss Steve Kean, insisting that what the former Celtic player went through was on a par with Lennon’s troubles last year. Lennon said: “What Steve’s been through is totally different to what I’ve went through...but the way he has handled it all has been fantastic.”

Hamstring knack visits upon Pittodrie again: Aberdeen midfielder Stephen Hughes is the latest player to be felled by the accursed injury, which has already sidelined Chris Clark, Isaac Osbourne and Peter Pawlett. Craig Brown says that the former Rangers and Motherwell midfielder will be out for around a month. (Express)

Over at Tannadice, Dundee United defender Robbie Nielson is hoping for a move abroad after his short-term deal expires in the summer. The former Hearts and Leicester player spoke of his desire to experience “something a bit different”, which, if the dreary goalless display against St Mirren was anything to go by, means he’d like to play football. I see Libra Personified has had some of his cowardly and vile posts removed. What is the story with Celtic fans these days ? Why are they so ashamed to admit that they follow Celtic, We have Malc claiming to be an Aberdeen Fan and in the past month or 2 we have had Hef change names several times and claim to be a Hearts and a Dun Utd fan. Now we have the bheastly Libra Personified claiming to be a St Johnstone fan and a member of the reformed faith, He even uses the name of Muirton Park to substaniate his absurd claim. So to sum up, Mr Libra Personified is offended by Rangers fans being up to their knees in the blood of murdering terrorists who killed and maimed thousands of his countrymen, innocent men, women and children. But oddly enough he loves the craic and the jolly songs in Praise of these child killers and indiscriminate bombers. You really could not invent such sub human people as this. I also see some of my posts were removed, It must have been difficult for the bheasts to take when I blew their sectarian theory out of the water and once again proved who the real bigots were.

Baldrick, After that post I don't think that anyone is going to be too happy to help you. You'll have to read through the whole thread. The answer to your question lies therein.

I can't be bothered reading through all these posts. Can any of you tell me whether the police and the football authorites are taking stern action against Rangers for the disgusting sectarian behaviour of their supporters on Saturday? Or is it like Celtic at Tynecastle last April where similar disgusting behaviour from Celtic supporters went un-noticed and un-punished by the authorities.

#188 That would be interesting as I cannot see how he could have given ticketus any security ,against Rangers assets, on the loan if he did not own the club at the time. I can see a spell in Barlinnie coming up and I don't see it being a happy time for him.

*convinced* "convived" is not a word.

#182 Well, no, it pretty much negates the claim that the SPL is the *only* league where a 10-point deduction would leave the 2nd place team still in second. Given that there at least 3 others, that is. 20 points is another story if course, but since that´s not the penalty, it´s irrelevant. As for the SPL becoming a Celtic procession without rangers, I disagree. For the first few seasons, yes, but I think it would even itself out after a while, as Cetic downsized and the others improved. You might say that the result of Celtic downsizing would be less European success, but I´m not convived of that and, in any case, it´s not like the last few years have been great for Scottish clubs in Europe anyway, rangers´ bore-draw passage to the UEFA final in 2008 notwithstanding.

Talking of the red stuff, the new Gers could adapt the words of a song to being up to the knees in HM debt. It scans. It could be sung without breaking any laws.

#176 TGM......Have to agree with you. Celtic were world class then.Champions of Europe and playing in the world club championship...Aye! Great days, a great team and a world class manager in big Jock. The 69 final you speak of, was a treasure to behold. 3-0 up at half time and we were rockin behind the goals. Big King Billy's bullet header for the opener and big George Connolly strollin past the rangers keeper..Oh! The joy. I think those days are coming back, very soon. Alex Ferguson played his last game for rangers, that day. They made Fergie the scape goat, or was itt that they found out that his mother was a Catholic, one or the other. lol

#177 - That rather reinforces the point rather than opposes it. Spain and Greece may have a 2-horse race just as the SPL did up until a few days ago, but a RFC-less SPL would be a one-horse procession. And the 10-point quote was someone else's, but it's the 20-point scenario that is scarier. Take that many points off Barca and they''d be mid-table. Take that many points off Olympiakos and they'd drop down to about sixth. So they're nowhere near as uncompetitive as the SPL.

171...Malc...as a youngster in the late 50's I was brought through to Ibrox quite a few times by my father whose company did work with Rangers...Got the stadium tour and met several players numerous times, was treated very well and it started my support of the club...as a young impressionable 7-8year old at the time I thought it was terrific....That's the reason I support RFC and always have...my father was a Dundee FC supporter his whole life...hope that helps.

My support of Celtic is more or less for family reasons. My maternal grandfather was a Celtic player just after WW1. Only played a few games for them, scoring a couple, before going back down the pit, but there you go...
