The Rumour Mill - Thursday’s football news and gossip
Rangers are awaiting clearance from the Gabon FA to sign Cousin Picture: SNS
In today’s Rumour Mill: Daniel Cousin edges closer to a surprise return to the SPL; Rangers may be reported to FIFA over a compensation row; Dundee United make a move for a new goalkeeper; plus the rest of today’s transfer news
RANGERS are at the mercy of the Gabon FA as the Ibrox side await confirmation of Daniel Cousin’s return to Ibrox, reports today’s Daily Record. Cousin’s contract with Gabon outfit FC Sapins has now expired, but the SFA, on Rangers’ behalf, are awaiting paperwork verifying that Cousin’s contract ran its course before the end of the January transfer window. The Sun, running the same story, quote Cousin as saying: “I’m excited about the possibility of returning to Rangers. It’s a special club for me and I hope we can reach an agreement in the next few days.”
While Rangers tie up a deal for Cousin, the Ibrox side have been foiled in their attempts to boost their numbers elsewhere. The Record and The Sun report that Namibian full-back Miguel Hamutenya was unable to obtain a work visa in time after impressing Rangers manager Ally McCoist during a recent trial, and has now signed to Maltese club Luxol St Andrews until the end of the season. The Sun goes on to say that Rangers will likely return to the negotiating table for the player in the summer.

DUNDEE UNITED have tied Polish goalkeeper Radoslaw Cierzniak to a pre-contract agreement, say the Daily Express and the Daily Mail. Cierzniak had been available under freedom of contract after leaving Cypriot side Alki Larnaca two weeks ago. The 28-year-old Pole convinced Peter Houston to make a move after the stopper saved a penalty in a trial match. Shamrock Rovers has been suggested as a potential destination for the goalkeeper until he joins the Tannadice side in the summer.
The Record and the Sun report on a wrangle between Rangers and Swedish side GAIS over a dispute that may be escalated to FIFA if unresolved. Marvin Celik, who Rangers recruited from GAIS in January, is the subject of the disagreement between the two clubs. GAIS allege that Rangers owe them a transfer free of £240,000, a claim that Rangers deny. The Swedes have accused Rangers of trying to wriggle out of paying. The Gothenburg club have been asked by Rangers to send written proof that they had offered Celik a contract in the required timescale after the expiry of his contract.
Finally, the Express report that former Aberdeen, Dundee United and Inverness Caledonian Thistle midfielder Stuart Duff has made a move to Kazakhstan side Kairat Almaty from Maltese club Qormi. The Express also say that St Mirren have invited free agent Steven Kinniburgh for a trial after the 22-year-old was released by Oxford United.

Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at 02:21 PMRangers into Administration, can the administrator make players "redundant"? Would this start a "fire sale" outwith the widow? Was David Murray a "fit and proper" person to run a football club? Is Craig Whyte? Perhaps the best course of action would be to let the whole entity sink into the mire. Not for partisan motives, just so that Craig Whyte does not start "Rangers 2012" with all the assets of the club and no liabilities. no wonder he looks smug, he is in a win-win situation, unless the SPL and the SFA decline to let the club rise from the ashes. For the fans, it would be a bitter blow, but would they rather have Craig Whyte at the helm? he has been called "a liar" in all but name by a Sherrif, in trouble with the FSA about client problems, should he be allowed to take Rangers for £1?

Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 11:05 PMTell me it aint so. Craig Brown awarded Manager of the month. A month in which Neil Lennon, the manager of Celtic[in case you don't know] won every match played. I am an Aberdeen fan and am totally embarassed, should have gone to Ally.

Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 09:41 PMThe Rangers mob must be gutted just now. Last night just wasn't meant to happen. Last night was the one that would have given Rangers a wee fighting chance, instead it "bilt their wee heids", so to speak. They are now looking at the distinct possibility of Celtic under the incredible Neil Lennon being crowned Champions. What makes it worse for Rangers, Neil is here for the long haul, he's building a young team for a ten year domination period. If Rangers survive the tax case and survive liquidation, they'll sure wish they went under a thousand times over...once Lenny's team goes from strength to strength and the trophies are in Neil's iron grip. God Bless ya Neil.

Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 09:29 PM"The award is a surprise and a bit of an embarrassment because Neil Lennon has won every match," explained Brown. That's Craig, not Scott.

Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 09:16 PMOK here it is - times have changed and so has technology. Thankfully, as a result, so have standards of refereeing. Gone are the days when the ref just blew his whistle and the papers reported it as such. Gone are the days when the ref put down his whistle and joined the after dinner circuit with a "I never gave them a point" or "I never was involved in a game they won". It's a reflection of society, everything is becoming transparent; mistakes, corruption, training, tv, technology, progression, "honesty". It's all there for all to see. It's tangible. It's real. Not something spoken about behind closed doors. I'm all for goal line technology but the fact that all games are now analysed from every angle has started to level the playing field. Let it continue. The Old Guard have been booted out of refereeing, let's start on the rest. Oh Lord Let it be.

Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 09:07 PMSome insights from Cousin agent Willie McKay re dealing with RFC: "Asked how dealing with the current Ibrox hierarchy compared to Murray's time in charge, McKay said: "I phoned up Alex McLeish about Jean-Alain Boumsong [in 2004]. "Five minutes later I was on my way to an airport in Lyon, on a private jet into Edinburgh, picked up by Sandy Jardine, job done. "That's the difference." ------------------------------ McKay neglected to say the Taxpayer footed the bill.

Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 09:01 PM#299 I would be calling for it to be introduced but not whining about it in a game that didn't concern me. Until then stick to the Laws, like the refs and others did last night. Unlike lots of refs and officials who haven't over the years, to one teams benefit.

Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 08:52 PM#320 Idee Why would they want to do that? If you believe the Rangers posters on this site the money is safely and securely deposited in the team accounts. Any day now they expect to hear they have won the big and little tax case and can start a spending spree to return their team to former status. If I call those posters "delusional" does that negate my being able to call in on Radio Snyde?????

Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 08:45 PMFianna #318, I agree, but he's only 20 years old, and bound to have a dip in form now and again. He's gonna be a big, big player for us.
