Snooker: Leslie relishes Gdynia qualifier against decorated Doherty

Bonnyrigg snooker professional Michael Leslie will
face 1997 world champion Ken Doherty tomorrow in a Gdynia Open qualifier at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.

And the 19-year-old, who lost 4-1 to Joe Perry last weekend, can’t wait to get on the table against the Irishman. He said: “I went down to the Crucible in 2003 to watch the World Championship final when Ken lost to Mark Williams and it’s incredible to think that almost ten years later I am now playing one of snooker’s great players in a professional tournament.

“I have been playing well in practice this week and I am really looking forward to the match but I know that if I don’t take the chances that come my way I will get punished”.

Leslie needs to beat Doherty and win a further match to reach the final stages of the event, which will take place on 5-7 October 2012 in Gdynia, Poland.
