Sighthill are just too spicy for Currie in Top Six final

The climax to the Scotmid Co-Operative-sponsored Water of Leith Bowling Association season saw Sighthill capture the title honours in the £1000 Top Six event with victory over 
Currie in the final.

Sighthill had the sometimes-debatable advantage of playing the final on their own green and on this occasion it did pay a winning dividend with the home stars in sparkling form to deliver a 4-2 points victory over their Currie rivals.

The format of the Top Six is Singles, Pairs and Triples played within a 45-minute timescale and Sighthill tipped the scales with success in the two of the three disciplines.

Graeme Eddington was the spearhead figure for Sighthill in the Singles and he made a significant contribution to the home side challenge when battling to a 10-8 win over his Currie counterpart Allan Buchan.

Currie made a winning impression in the Triples with Tam Brown, Stuart Fisher and Ross McCormack always just doing enough to edge a 6-4 victory over Alan Flockhart, David Ferguson and Scott Lylle.

But Sighthill reigned supreme in the Pairs with Andy Donald and Scott Chalmers engaging high-flying mode from the start and racing to a 9-1 triumph over Stewart Ingles and Neil Fisher.

“The sponsorship support from Scotmid over the last two years has brought substantial benefits to the Water of Leith BA in terms of raised interest and promoting competitive events like The Top Six,” said secretary Kenny Girdler.
