Fraser on fishing: Glencorse ticks all boxes

I TOOK the opportunity of having a midweek boat out on Glencorse reservoir in torrid conditions, writes STUART 
FRASER.

On arrival I was met with a welcoming cup of tea by friendly staff who helped carry my outboard and battery to the boat. Looking up the water from the lodge the wind was 
blowing in all directions with heavy showers every now and again.

However, as I was here I was going to have a cast and set up with floating line and three fly cast of Bibio, Kate McLaren and White Cat on the point. Management was quick to remind me that the fish were turning on to the more naturals including the rainbows. Drifting out of the jetty my boat partner hooked into a nice rainbow on their first cast on a Tadpole type fly.

The boat was getting caught in cross winds and turned in all directions – my fault for not bringing along the drogue. We kept on the move trying to avoid the swirling wind although we were still catching fish. After taking the boat to the head of the wind I really did start hitting fish. It was fantastic sport and most of the takes were within the last twenty feet of the drift.

I was very surprised that a lot of the takes were on the hang with very savage and solid takes. I had offers on every drift and it looks like it is heading in the direction of being one of the top boat venues in Scotland.
