Bowls: Shearer cuts down Kerr
Scotland bowls cap Ewan Shearer of Bo’ness served up a devastating display of his drawing skills to score a runaway 21-2 victory over the luckless John Kerr of Armadale in the Singles final of the District 14 (West Lothian) bowls finals of the national championships at Broxburn last night.
Junior cap Calum Logan (23) of Kirkliston, had his hands full at 15-11 down to Steven Fleming of Buchan Park in the Junior Singles but closed to 17-16 then hit 21 with a 1, 2, 2 finish.
He will be joined at Ayr Northfield by the Kirkliston rink of Steven Forrest, Greg Logan, Mark Allison and Neil Speirs, who pushed on from 8-7 to beat Oakbank, 20-10 while Stuart Affleck, Blair Mackie and Thomas Mann of Newbridge beat Broxburn, 18-13, to progress in the Triples.
The match of the night saw Colin McConachy and Sandy McDougall of Glenmavis cash in on a 10-0 lead to beat Bathgate brothers David and Alan McCormick 18-17 in the Pairs.
Pumpherston beat Bathgate, 20-9 in the Seniors Fours.
