Basketball sides keep up winning habit

Great BRITAIN’S basketball teams are certainly getting a winning habit as the London Olympics approach with the GB women beating African champions and Olympic contenders Angola 74-57 at Ponds Forge, Sheffield, last night and the GB Under-20 men upsetting Croatia 90-78 in their Euro B Tournament group game in
Sofia, Bulgaria.

GB women, led by Natalia Stafford with 14 points and including Capital guard Rose Anderson, go on to play two more Olympic opponents in Sheffield, facing Australia today and France tomorrow, while GB men, including Dunfermline’s Robert Archibald and Stirling’s Kieron Achara, play Portugal there on both days.

The GB men’s under-20 side were again led by senior squad reject Devon Van Oostrum with 27 points, while Falkirk’s Ali Fraser had another fine display scoring 17 points and taking seven rebounds.
