Rugby: Three tries not enough for Wanderers against Hawick
Murrayfield Wanderers pushed Hawick YM all the way on Saturday, but lost out by a point to leave the Borderers within touching distance of the RBS National One title
The 25-24 win for Hawick YM means they will beat Musselburgh to the silverware after an epic title race if they can get another victory at RHC Cougars on April 14.
Wanderers’ points came from tries by captain Alex Cox, Murray Johnstone and Chris Dove, with Johnstone kicking seven points and Barry Turnbull two.
Wanderers could still finish third with a bonus-point win over Ellon in their final league match this coming weekend.
Musselburgh, who are four points behind YM, know their destiny is out with their hands now, but kept up the pressure with a 35-9 win at Ellon. They finish the league season at home to Garnock in a fortnight.Elsewhere at the weekend RHC Cougars bounced back from a thumping defeat by Dunfermline two weeks ago to win 29-25 at Garnock and are set for a mid-table finish.
Edinburgh University Blues defeated Livingston 25-12 at Peffermill and Kilmarnock edged out Dunfermline 6-5.
