Rugby: Kellock talks up Scots prospects for Wallabies tour Test

World Cup captain Al Kellock insists Scotland’s rugby team is on the verge of a climb back up the rankings – starting with Tuesday’s opening tour Test against Australia in New South Wales.

The man who took over captaincy when Scotland defeated the Wallabies 9-8 at Murrayfield three years ago says it is time to put the brakes on a slide that has seen Scotland lose seven in a row and go from an all-time high of seventh to 12th.

Declares Kellock, who has now handed over the reins to Ross Ford: “We are all very disappointed with the way the last year has gone especially because probably since that game at Murrayfield against Australia, we’ve been really building something a little bit special.

“We climbed to our highest ever world ranking but in the last year or so it’s drifted away.

“We’ve got to get it back where we want it and that starts next Tuesday night.”

Having started each Six Nations game on the bench Kellock is expected to be given a run at second row following Jim Hamilton’s suspension.
