Unionists will not say ‘no’ in campaign

THE campaign to keep Scotland in the United Kingdom is refusing to be branded the “No” campaign.

The cross-party drive to stop a Yes vote for independence in the 2014 referendum is expected to be launched later this month with Labour’s Alistair Darling being joined by former Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy and ex-Scottish Tory leader Annabel Goldie.

Organisers are said to have set a target of amassing a £1 million “war chest” by the time they launch the campaign.

The material is expected to emphasise the “partnership” which the UK represents between Scotland, England, Wales amd Northern Ireland.

A source was today quoted saying: “We are not going to be a No campaign. We are saying yes to partnership, yes to Scotland in the UK.

“It is a positive message. Staying in the UK is a positive message for Scotland.”
