Taskforce planned to tackle problem of party flats

A NEW taskforce will be created to deal with the occupants of party flats who plague nearby residents with loud music and noisy behaviour.

Environment chiefs will introduce new measures following long-standing issues and complaints from those who live around short-term lets in the city centre.

Along with the introduction of a taskforce, councillors from the local authority voted to enforce using the powers it already has.

Edinburgh MSP Marco Biagi said: “Since straight after I was elected I’ve been hearing the horror stories from neighbours of stag and hen parties taking over flats as if they were hotels.”

Mark Turley, director of the communities department at Edinburgh City Council, wrote: “This is accepted as a significant matter which requires consideration of what enforcement mechanisms and process will best mitigate the impact on neighbouring residents.”
