City pupils to compete in parliament

PUPILS from Boroughmuir High School are heading to the Scottish Parliament to compete in the national final of Young Consumers of the Year.

The team of 15 to 17-year-olds will go up against schools from across Scotland in March after winning the Edinburgh stage of the contest,

They will be tested on a range of consumer-related topics including money and credit, food and drink, environment and social issues as well as consumer and shopping matters.

Councillor Lesley Hinds, the city’s transport and environment convener, said: “I’ve been very impressed with the skills and attitudes of all our Young Consumers and my congratulations goes to all those involved in the competition.

“I’d like to wish Boroughmuir High School the best of luck.”

The UK final takes place in Brighton in June 2013 as part of the annual Trading Standards Institute conference.
