Talk of the town: Um, let me think about that one..

WHILE everyone likes a quiz question, it’s fair to say that competitions often don’t have the hardest question, in order to entice more people to take part.

But the HMV Picturehouse on Lothian Road has run possibly the easiest competition we’ve seen in a while.

On Friday, the venue sent out an e-mail to its mailing list offering a “chance to win tickets to see Field Music, Laki Mera and Bwani Junction on Monday, February 6”.

The question? Which venue will Field Music perform live at on Monday, February 6.

Now that’s a tough one...

A fin romance

IT might just be something in the water but Deep Sea World is gaining a reputation as one of Scotland’s surprise romantic destinations.

No fewer than four bridegrooms-to-be have popped the question at the country’s national aquarium in the last 12 months, and staff also believe the beautiful displays and relaxed atmosphere are the perfect combination for first dates.

Talk about taking the plunge.

Command performance

THERE’S no stopping super-songstress Susan Boyle, who has now been given the royal nod.

Since shooting to stardom on Britain’s Got Talent, SuBo has become a global phenomenon, performing for fans across the world and even singing for the Pope.

And now the West Lothian warbler is to bring her unique brand of crooning to the most exalted spot in the country.

Boyle will take centre stage at the Queen’s diamond jubilee celebrations after being confirmed as the headline act at the three-day “World Comes To Windsor” bash in May. The event is to be screened on ITV, and it’s safe to say that, like most SuBo fans, wild horses couldn’t drag us away.

Slippery customer

POLITICIANS are famed for their ability to avoid answering questions whenever possible, although First Minister Alex Salmond will no doubt be a little peeved that his slippery skills were given such a public airing recently.

When behaviour began getting rowdy during last week’s First Minister’s Questions, Presiding Officer Tricia Marwick intervened to ask MSPs to quieten down. She told them: “Johann Lamont is asking the questions, the First Minister is answering them, can the rest of you settle down?”

But Ms Lamont, who was following up Mr Salmond’s latest response, said: “Would that it were so – whatever that was, it was not an answer.”
