John Gibson: Quiet life now for the skipper

Ronnie Corbett backs Evening News 'Battle for Britannia' with brother Allan

SKIPPERS was a credit to Leith’s waterfront culinary scene for some 15 years before owner Allan Corbett abandoned ship, so to speak, around 2000.

He found his own “desert island” across the water in Fife and he has been enjoying his retirement in the Kingdom’s sleepy spa, Elie.

Occasionally he ventures back here to the Edinburgh Sports Club at Belford for a bite. Does he see much of brother Ron at all?

“We’ve always stayed in touch and when I see him usually it’s when he comes up from Surrey to his holiday retreat in East Lothian. He has acquired a new knee, so the East Lothian air has boosted his recuperation.”

You’d never call them the Brothers Grimm.
