John Gibson: This is where it’s at, man!

Location, location, location. Get it right, Gibson, get it right. Mind you, there’s only a mile or so in it.

Introducing the Leaf & Bean, a relatively new coffee house at the foot of Comiston Road. I said it was at Holy Corner.

Now, everybody well knows Bruntsfield claims the Holy Corner. I’m not going to take it away from the good folks there. Keep the head.

Leaf & Bean owner Lindsay Hay, pleased with the mention anyway, tells me Hibs manager Pat Fenlon with coaching staff breakfasted there (pre-Hampden, so possibly it was something in the scrambled eggs) and Paul Hartley dropped in, having masterminded promotion for Alloa.

What Lindsay’s tea and coffee guzzlers don’t realise is that her shop once stocked the coal for neighbouring Morningside Station’s trains.

A shop next door, it’s rumoured, is destined to stock coal for our trams once they’re up and running. If ever.

Happy birthday

Let’s hear it for Alasdair Hutton. A real switch for the man who every night during the Tattoo cajoles thousands on the Esplanade to stand or sit and be counted for whichever country they’re from.

Hutton’s been the veritable “voice of the Tattoo” from up there in the “posh” stands these past 21 years and, for a change, it was applause – applause for him last weekend on his 72nd birthday.
